David Ball, LMFT

Philosophy and Approach: My approach to counseling is largely based on a model called solution-focused therapy, which focuses on individual strengths to envision and facilitate their own goals. Other family members are encouraged to participate as appropriate. I also incorporate techniques from other various theoretical orientations, such as humanistic, cognitive-behavior, narrative, art, and play therapy techniques when I feel they may be beneficial to help clients achieve their goals. I see my role as a therapist as working in conjunction with clients to identify which strengths might be helpful to work towards mutually established meaningful and incremental goals, both inside and outside of the therapy room. Solution-Focused therapy is geared towards individual and family therapy approaches to assist with clients towards their treatment goals.
Formal Education and Training: I hold a Master’s degree in Couples and Family Therapy from the University of Oregon. Major coursework in the program included: systems theory and understanding of the of the family and couple dynamic, group dynamics, diagnosis and treatment, interpersonal violence curriculum, spirituality, human sexuality, medical family therapy, as well as several theoretical models. I am also undergoing ongoing continuing education to continue honing my abilities as a therapist, and currently working towards certification as a dual diagnosis therapist for substance abuse and mental health treatment. I would be happy to discuss my educational and training with you further if you have any questions.
